Chase quietly updated the terms for The Edit credit on the Sapphire Reserve, now treating back-to-back stays at the same property within 24 hours as a single stay. Only the first stay qualifies for the $250 credit, killing the common workaround of booking two separate two-night stays to use both halves of the $500 annual credit on one trip. The two-night minimum per booking remains, but you can no longer stack both credits at the same hotel consecutively. Compared to Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts, which still credits each stay separately, Chase's restriction is materially harsher on a card with a $795 annual fee.

Starting October 22, 2026, Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite+ cardholders using Chexy for rent or tax payments will see their 4% cash back drop to the card's 1% purchase rate. On a $2,000 payment, that shifts the math from $80 cash back minus a $35 Chexy fee for a $45 net gain to $20 cash back minus $35 fee for a $15 net loss. The change affects all platforms coding under MCC 6513 (rent) or 9311 (tax), including Casa and Neobanc, not just Chexy. Until then, the accelerated rate still applies.

The HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card in Australia closes on November 18, 2026. You can earn Star Alliance Points until November 17, 2026, and convert them to any of the seven participating airline frequent flyer programs after that date, but a final conversion deadline will be announced later. Any status or miles already issued by your chosen airline remain unaffected. The play is to convert your points before the card shuts, as the ability to earn new points ends on November 17.

Uber is trimming Uber One ride rewards from 6% to 5% back in credits within the next few weeks. The 1% reduction hits habitual users hardest. New features like sharing the subscription with family, international coverage, and 10% back on hotel bookings through the app don't replace the lost earning on frequent domestic rides and Uber Eats orders. The core benefits — $0 delivery fees, surge savings — remain untouched, but the math shifted.

Today's approvals lock in the December 17 merger date. Asiana exits Star Alliance on December 16, and the frequent flier program integration remains unresolved. Any Asiana miles you hold could face an uncertain conversion rate or redemption landscape after that date. The time to act on those awards is before the merger, not after.

American Express is slashing the Platinum Travel Card's milestone rewards starting September 10, 2026. The INR 1.9 lakh milestone's 7,500 bonus MR points vanish entirely. At INR 7 lakh, the 22,500 MR points become a INR 20,000 Taj e-Gift Card, cutting total milestone MR from 40,000 to 10,000. Plus, from October 1, 2026, domestic lounge access requires INR 1 lakh spend in the prior quarter. For a cardholder spending INR 7 lakh annually, that's a 30,000-point loss partially offset by INR 10,000 more Taj value. The card is pivoting from flexible MR to a Taj-specific reward, making it less attractive for general travel.

American is adding choice to million miler benefits—Loyalty Points, gift status, systemwide upgrades—but the effective date is TBD, creating a strategic dilemma if you're close to a threshold. Delta and Alaska offer annual head starts; United proved 'lifetime' can be revoked mid-flight. The expected value of milestone perks means nothing if the airline changes the rules after you cross the line. Focus on what you can use today: systemwide upgrades clear best on off-peak routes, and gift status works for a family member who flies your same hubs.

Starting August 25, 2026, American Airlines eliminates complimentary upgrades from Main Cabin to Business Class on nine three-cabin domestic routes including JFK-LAX, JFK-SFO, and several Hawaii flights. Economy elites will now only clear into Premium Economy, not lie-flat seats. Systemwide upgrades and paid Premium Economy purchases still unlock Business, but the standard comp path is gone. With only 12 Premium Economy seats on the A321XLR versus 20 Business seats, expect empty business cabins while elites sit behind.

Starting September 1, 2026, AeroMexico elite members — Platinum, Corporate Platinum, Titanium — lose lounge access on purely domestic flights. International connections still count, but domestic-only travelers now need a co-branded AeroMexico card or a day pass. Even domestic Premier Class no longer includes lounge access. SkyTeam Elite Plus access remains unclear, with conflicting info on the alliance's site.

Emirates is reducing its Dubai-to-Florida service in September, dropping its daily Miami flight to six weekly and slashing Orlando from seven to four weekly frequencies — a 29% overall cut. The Miami route has a fifth-freedom leg to Bogotá, Colombia, with block times up to 22h35m. If you're holding Emirates Skywards miles for a Florida award, September availability will tighten, especially on the Orlando 777-200LR and Miami 777-300ER.

British Airways is pulling 28% of its A380 flights for the winter, grounding superjumbos to reconfigure them from 469 seats to a higher-premium 421-seat layout with more business and fewer economy seats. From November 2026 through February 2027, only five daily departures remain: twice-daily to Miami, and daily to Johannesburg, San Francisco, and Singapore. That is down from seven routes last winter, meaning far fewer award seats in premium cabins on the superjumbo for the peak holiday window.

From 2 February 2027, Jetstar's cheapest Economy fare includes only one 40x30x20cm underseat bag up to 10kg. The current free main cabin bag plus small item (7kg total) disappears. Adding a wheelie bag or duffel in the overhead bin now requires 'Priority Carry-on' at AU$25 on short routes, AU$33 Sydney–Melbourne, or AU$52 Cairns–Tokyo. A couple returning Sydney–Melbourne pays about AU$132 for two overhead bags. Jetstar will no longer routinely weigh cabin bags at the gate, and passengers who booked before 5 August 2026 for travel from that date get Priority Carry-on free; anyone who paid for the old 7kg option gets a refund.

For flights as of September 15, 2026, Lufthansa is charging up to €170 per sector on its retrofitted (non-Allegris) A380 business class to lock in a 'Privacy Seat' (the A and K windows) or an 'Extra Long Bed Seat' (the bulkhead windows with the larger ottoman) in the staggered 1-2-1 Thompson Aero Vantage XL cabin. Miles & More HON Circle and Senator members, plus Business Flex fares, can still assign Privacy Seats free; only HON Circle gets the Extra Long Bed free, and elites on Business Light are not exempt. The fee extends the Allegris seating-fee model to the eight A380s Lufthansa is retrofitting, making the once-standard window row a paid choice.

American Airlines is hitting the reset button on lounge economics, with the standard Admirals Club membership jumping to $1,400 (or 140,000 miles) for AAdvantage members starting Aug. 23, up from today's $850 max. The loyalty tier discount is minimal -- Executive Platinum saves only $200 off that top rate. Meanwhile, a new single membership at $750 (75,000 miles) strips guest privileges and partner lounge access, and household memberships are being phased out after Oct. 3. The real power play: the refreshed Citi AAdvantage Executive Card at a $695 annual fee still includes full membership--valued up to $1,400--making it the cheapest gate key by a mile.

Chase Sapphire Lounges will remove Priority Pass access on August 15, 2026, ending a long-running anomaly where non-Chase cardholders could enter via their Priority Pass memberships. Starting that date, only Chase cardholders will have access, and layover guests can stay up to five hours instead of three. If you hold a Priority Pass from any issuer, you have exactly 13 days to use these lounges before they become exclusive to Chase Sapphire Reserve holders.

American Express UK is slashing Avios earnings on the British Airways Premium Plus Card by up to 58% on BA and BA Holidays purchases, dropping from 3 Avios to 1.25 Avios per GBP effective October 7, 2026. Regular spend drops from 1.5 to 1.25 Avios per GBP, a 17% cut. The only remaining value is the 2-4-1 Companion Voucher after spending 15,000 GBP, but the card is becoming uncompetitive overall.

American Airlines has ended its 24-hour full-refund policy for flights booked less than seven days before departure, now matching the DOT minimum that United, JetBlue, and Southwest already follow. The change only affects tickets purchased inside that seven-day window; main cabin fares still offer no change or cancellation fees (but you get a travel credit, not cash), while basic economy now costs $99 for AAdvantage members to cancel and non-members get nothing. This is a devaluation of flexibility for last-minute travelers, especially those in basic economy, and Delta now stands alone with a more generous policy.

Starting August 5, 2026, Delta and Starbucks simplify SkyMiles earning to a flat 1 mile per dollar at the register, replacing the reload-based brackets that paid up to 2X for $100+ top-ups. The real change: you must have flown a Delta-marketed flight in the past 12 months to earn at all. Lapsed flyers get a grace period through October 5, 2026; newly linked members earn for their first 12 months without a flight. Your Starbucks Stars and existing SkyMiles are untouched, but if you were reloading $50+ or don't fly Delta, this is a de facto cut.

Starting Sept. 20, 2026, the Chase Freedom Flex loses its cellphone protection benefit. Currently, cardholders get up to $800 per claim ($50 deductible) for damage or theft, max two claims per year. If you rely on this, move your wireless bill to another card before Sept. 20. Options include the no-annual-fee Wells Fargo Active Cash ($600 per claim), or premium cards like Amex Platinum, Capital One Venture X, or Ink Business Preferred (up to $1,000). Don't leave a gap in coverage.

American Express is narrowing which Peacock subscriptions trigger the Amex Platinum's up to $25 monthly digital entertainment credit. Starting Aug. 1, bundled Peacock subscriptions, add-on services, and Peacock purchased through a third party will no longer qualify. Only stand-alone Peacock subscriptions bought directly from Peacock remain eligible. The $300 annual ceiling on the credit stays unchanged. Cardmembers using a bundle or third-party billing have until Aug. 1 to adjust.

Marriott Bonvoy quietly raised award prices across hundreds of hotels, with increases ranging from 2.4% to 15.6%. Examples include The Athenee Bangkok from 32,000 to 37,000 points and London EDITION from 107,000 to 115,000. Without an award chart, members may not notice until redemption. The changes particularly impact free night certificates at 35,000, 50,000, and 85,000 point thresholds, as small increases can push hotels beyond top-off limits of 25,000 points. Some 2027 pricing has not yet repriced, offering a brief window to lock in old rates.
